Research Projects for students:
Many faculty members are reluctant to sponsor research projects for students they do not personally know. So, a good way to secure a research position is to stand out in the classroom. Ask questions, show enthusiasm, perform well, and then ask the faculty member if there is an open research position in his/her lab.
Research Projects for Students e.g. in year 3 and/or for an honours degree in the following areas can be supervised or co-supervised from staff within the discipline of Psychiatry.
In order to enhance class room lectures and laboratory exercises, and to develop research projects for students it is vital that teachers have research experience, especially in the field. Research experience provides teachers with hands-on experience that they can use to help better explain earth science concepts in class. Academic staff supervise 4th year Hons research projects within the BSc non-denominated degree. Resources permitting, Academic staff may also contribute final year research projects for students taking denominated degrees such as Marine Science, Biotechnology, and Environmental Science.
Undergraduate and especially graduate courses in the political science department offer a variety of research opportunities. Students are also encouraged to find chances to participate in research by getting to know faculty members and discussing potential projects of mutual interest. The department also offers programs and funding to support independent research projects for students at all levels.
The Research Training Program at Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History provides collections-based, hypothesis-testing research projects for students interested in learning more about natural history research in the biological, geological and anthropological sciences. The program is conducted in-residence at the Museum.David Brooks' new document, Climate Science Inquiry and Research Projects for Students: Earth's Radiative Balance, is a result of project development carried out during 'sthree-year, NASA-funded Climate Science Research for Educators and Students. This documentbegins with an an introduction to Earth's radiative balance and using data loggers to collect data. It then describes projects for measuring total solar radiation at Earth's surface, surface reflectance, surface and sky thermal radiation, sky photography, and using existing data to examine climatetrends in the U.S. The PDF version of the document can be downloaded The research positions typically last between 3 to 6 months and are linked to current scientific projects of the department of Psychiatry. At this moment, there are research possibilities in the field of depressive disorder, schizophrenia, pre- and postpartum disorders, forensic psychiatry, epidemiological psychiatry and neurobiological psychiatry (see for actual research description: under 'Education Dutch medical students': research projects for students). Modest research projects for students working toward the Bachelor of Arts degree and demonstrating aptitude for independent work. May be repeated once. No more than three credits of CHEM 490 may be applied toward a chemistry degree. Prerequisite: Consent of the faculty member directing the project must be obtained prior to registration. 1-3 credits.University of Oregon and the National Science Foundation sponsor a 10 week summer undergraduate research program for Physics and Chemistry majors to participate in a wide variety of exciting research projects. The Oregon REU program offers a variety of research projects for students interested in chemistry, physics, environmental chemistry, optics and materials science. Students work closely with faculty advisors, graduate students, and other research undergraduates for a unique summer experience.
